*Individual results may vary. There’s a new treatment for submental fullness, otherwise known as a “double chin.” It’s called Kybella, recently FDA approved. This a medical breakthrough uses a molecule that naturally occurs in the body to reduce fat cells under the chin. Kybella provides non-surgical treatment for this common cosmetic issue.
What is Kybella and how does it work?
Kybella is a name given to this version of deoxycholic acid. This chemical exists naturally in the body to break down dietary fat. When it is injected directly into the skin beneath the chin, it treats the fat cells there and causes them to be processed. After these fat cells are reduced, they are absorbed into the body.
A series of injections of Kybella are administered under the chin, possibly taking an average of about five minutes. It is a simple in-office procedure with virtually little-to-no recovery time needed. Injections can be administered once a month for up to six months to achieve the desired results.
The Advantages of Kybella
Are there any disadvantages?
You may experience mild soreness in the injection area for two to three days. Other side effects may include mild bruising, swelling, and temporary numbness at the site of injection. It is not currently covered by insurance as it is considered a cosmetic procedure.
