IPL Hair Reduction

Unsightly or excessive body and facial hair can be uncomfortable and upsetting for both women and men, as well as being difficult to reduce and inconvenient. Although, several methods of hair reduction are available most are temporary, messy and can often make the situation worse. At Rejuvenation MD we offer IPL hair reduction treatments to reduce unwanted body and facial hair, so you can have the freedom and confidence to wear the outfits you want, without first having to worry about unwanted hair.

What is IPL Hair Reduction?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. IPL systems will release controlled pulses of filtered light that are then absorbed by the pigment in hair, melanin. This process thoroughly heats the hair and treats cells responsible for growth, therefore possibly achieving long-term hair reduction.

How is it different from Laser Hair Reduction?

IPL is a safer alternative to laser hair reduction. It can also target more hair due to its increased wavelengths. IPL can deliver hundreds of wavelengths in each burst of light. Laser hair reduction has only one wavelength and therefore cannot target as many hairs; it’s also a less painful option.

Is IPL hair reduction just for your legs?

No, IPL hair reduction can be performed on several parts of the body including; face, back, neck, arms, underarms, and bikini. Rejuvenation MD offers IPL hair reduction procedures for all of these areas. Multiple treatments spread over six to eight weeks are recommended for best results.

What should I do before and after treatment?

We recommend our patients avoid bleaching, waxing or tweezing of the hair two weeks before your treatment. Hair should be clipped or shaved the day before your treatment. To ensure a safe treatment, we recommend you avoid tanning or the use of self-tanners before treatment.

After your treatment, we advise our patients to avoid exposure to the sun for up to one week unless the use of high factor sunblock is used on the treated area. It is also recommended that you apply 1% hydrocortisone to the treated area.

How long do the results last?

IPL hair reduction does not entirely reduce the hair follicles, which have great powers of re-growth; therefore it is not considered a lasting solution. Patients can usually see some regrowth within a year after the treatments. IPL is designed to reduce the normal hair growth cycle on the treated part of the body.
