Rejuvenation Vein Clinic offers treatments for spider veins and varicose veins.  Our staff of physicians include an interventional radiologist and a surgeon who are trained to perform vein procedures.

Spider vein treatments are considered cosmetic and are not covered by health insurance. Treatments for varicose veins may be covered by health insurance.

Spider veins are superficial red and/or blue veins that do not cause symptoms such as pain and swelling.
Spider vein treatments include:
  1. Sclerotherapy:  This is the Gold Standard for the treatment of spider veins. It includes superficial injections into the veins, which after several treatments, cause the vein to fade.
  2. Laser treatments:  Depending on the extent of your spider veins, the physician may use a laser to help decrease the appearance of your veins.

Varicose veins are the large "rope-like" veins which are often one-quarter inch or larger in diameter.

WHAT CAUSES VARICOSE VEINS?
Varicose veins occur when veins are not properly returning blood from the lower leg to the heart.  All veins have valves that open to allow the flow of blood to the heart and close to prevent back flow (otherwise known as "reflux") of blood to the foot.  When a valve fails to function properly, blood leaks through and flows down the leg in the wrong direction.  The blood overfills and distends the superficial veins under the skin, resulting in the bulging seen in varicose veins.

When varicose veins become severe, it is referred to as chronic venous insufficiency.  Symptoms include aching pain, easy leg fatigue and leg heaviness, all of which worsen as the day progresses.  Left untreated, chronic venous insufficiency can cause ulcerations.

HOW ARE VARICOSE VEINS TREATED?

Endovenous laser therapy treats chronic venous insufficiency by delivering laser energy through a small puncture in the leg to close the diseased vein.  At Rejuvenation Vein Clinic, we are proud to offer endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) as an alternative to vein stripping.  With endovenous laser therapy, no surgery is required, and the entire procedure can be performed in less than one hour in our office.  During the procedure, you are awake and your leg in anesthetized.

IS THE LOSS OF THE VEIN A PROBLEM?

No. There are many veins in the leg, the blood simply flows through other healthy veins after the laser therapy.

IS ENDOVENOUS LASER THERAPY PAINFUL?

Although individual responses vary, most people report little to no pain associated with endovenous laser therapy.  After the procedure you may feel some tenderness, tingling, itching or tightness in the treated leg, which should disappear within a month.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

You are encouraged to walk immediately following the procedure and resume normal activities.  However, during the two weeks following your procedure you should avoid swimming, vigorous gym workouts, lifting heavy weights, hot baths or excessive sun.

ARE TREATMENTS COVERED BY HEALTH INSURANCE?

The treatment of varicose veins may be covered by your health insurance.  Our staff will work with you to ensure you are pre-certified prior to any procedure. The treatment of spider veins is cosmetic and is not covered by health insurance.
